Depending on which generation you were born, you might have to contest opinions on which football player is the greatest of all time. To some, it’s Maradona or Pele, while the younger generation might vouch for Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. While all of these individuals have quite the impressive track record, this article focuses on the latter, none other than the sultan of the stepover himself, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Top goal scorer for Real Madrid

There is a reason why Real Madrid was one of the greatest football clubs of all time when Cristiano Ronaldo was their striker. In the nine seasons he was with them the Portugal international scored  450 goals in only 438 games, making him the club’s top goal scorer. The only other Madrid player that is remotely close to his record is Raul, who scored 325 goals in 741 appearances before retiring. The highest number of goals of all time goes to Ali Daei, with 109 goals in 149 caps. Ronaldo however, holds the record for the most number of international goals by a player who is still active. Since his debut in 2003, the striker has scored 85 goals in 156 appearances, which is also a national record.


UEFA Champions League top scorer

The Champion’s League has a reputation for being one of the most prestigious club tournaments in the world. You’re competing against the best of the best, so it goes without saying, it is arguably one of the most difficult competitions to compete in. But that doesn't stop Ronaldo. He is currently the highest goal scorer in the competition, with 126 goals under his belt, with Lionel Messi following close behind.  


Most number of Ballon d’Or awards

The Ballon d’Or, presented by France Football is one of the most prestigious awards that any football player can receive in terms of individual awards. Cristiano Ronaldo, along with career rival  Lionel Messi, has won the much-coveted after award five times and finished as the runner up thrice. Winning one Ballon d’Or is a feat in itself. The forward also holds the record for the highest number of Ballon d’Or nominations.
